"CAMI Maths Challenge Causes Stir"  -  GEORGE HERALD

Speed and accuracy proved to be vital skills to success in the 2008 CAMI Speed Challenge, a Mathematics competition that attracted a crowd of more than 450 on Sunday, 19 October at the Garden Route Mall. The platform for a spectacular day was set and 122 courageous learners (from gr. 1 to 11) from 34 schools across the Southern Cape came with great loads of brains and brawn to compete in their respective age groups.

According to shoppers it was truly amazing to witness as some of the smallest of learners counted on their little fingers to ensure that they got the answers right. The event was preceded by qualifying rounds at school level where thousands of learners took part, and only the top performing learners were invited back to the action packed final.

Young and old could not pass the opportunity to stop and admire the top performers, some stacking up amazing scored. Mr. Magnus Niemand from Educon CAMI, official distributor of the educational software, organized this event to highlight the importance of numeracy skills as a fundamental building block in the learning process. Niemand said: "Learners are experiencing academical challenges now that will have greater negative repercussions in higher grades. CAMI has been supporting learners since 1984 and makes the learning experience fun and exciting."
